
Incorporated in 1948 as the Crockett Sales Company, the company was purchased in 1968 by Ed Doty, who changed its name to Doty Distributors, Inc. In 1976, Schenley Industries purchased the company's stock and changed its name to Paradise Beverages, Inc. In 1980, Paradise Beverages was purchased by Topa Equities, Ltd. from Schenley.
It was during the Doty Distributors' years that sales of alcoholic beverages began. The purchase of Paradise Beverages by Topa Equities, Ltd. opened many new opportunities. The purchase of Cen-Cal Beverages of Hawaii added the Coors and Stroh lines.
In 1988 Paradise Beverages purchased McKesson Wines & Spirits, expanding its wine and spirits division.
In 1995, the company purchased Island Beverages Company and the Miller Brewing Company's family was added to the company's growing portfolio of brands. In 1996, Paradise Beverages acquired the Heineken and Samuel Adams lines from Eagle Distributors.
On September 1, 2012, Paradise Beverages purchased JMD Beverages, a locally owned and operated company. JMD Beverages has become the exclusive wine division of Paradise Beverages and operates as “JMD Beverages” within the company.
With the acquisition of JMD Beverages, our beverage portfolio has increased to over 4,000 line items.
John Edward Anderson (September 12, 1917 – July 29, 2011) was the president and sole shareholder of Topa Equities, Ltd. Anderson oversaw more than 40 wholly owned subsidiaries in diverse industries such as agriculture, automotive dealerships, insurance, real estate, oil, and wholesale beverage distribution.
